How to Reactivate Your Uber Driver Account



One of the most bothersome and worrying things for many Uber drivers is receiving an email that tells them that their Uber account has been deactivated.However, in most cases you really need not worry. The problem can be solved in just a few simple steps. 

There are many reasons why your account may have been deactivated, whether it is because you forgot to update your documents or because you received low ratings from passengers.Either way, you will probably be able to reactivate your account without too much of a hassle.

Begin by finding out why your account was deactivated in the first place. You will need to email Uber and ask why, exactly, your account is disabled. Keep in mind that you will need to be patient–the reply might take a little while to arrive.The response, when it arrives, will probably explain the entire situation. If you are not satisfied with the response, don’t be afraid to press for more details without coming off as rude or complaining.

Stay calm and make sure that all of your messages to Uber are polite!


In most situations, you can reactivate your uber driver account by following the instructions Uber provides:


  1. If you have been deactivated due to a document that was not updated, simply update it as per Uber’s instructions and you should be good to go.
  2. If the reason for your deactivation was because you received low ratings, you can take Uber’s driver training class (It costs $50 in some US cities ) and your account will be reactivated. (Ask your specific city’s Uber customer representative about this).
  3. If your account was deactivated due to your lack of activity, send an email to Uber asking them that you would like to be active as an Uber driver again. To prevent the deactivation from occurring again, you will need to drive at least once a month.


There are only a few situations in which you cannot get your account reactivated. First of all, if you violated an Uber policy, it is highly unlikely that they will accept you again. Uber generally does not take people that they believe will not follow their rules.

Secondly, if you received a very serious complaint from a passenger, you will probably not be reactivated.

Now that you are fully aware of how to reactivate your Uber driver account as well as prevent it from occurring in the future, #UberON. Stay active as a driver, follow the rules and treat passengers well to ensure that you are never permanently removed from the Uber services!

  2. I’ve recently been deactivated for a high rate of cancelled rides. Most were cancelled by the rider. I will accept a ride that reads drive to pin 1 minute away when it is actually more then 25 minutes away. Could be more in Los Angeles traffic. When explaining to rider they usually cancel or request that I cancel on their behalf. Really doesn’t matter. Uber deactivated me nonetheless. 122 rated calls in 2 weeks. 112 of those 5 stars. Uber doesn’t care about wether you provide a good service to riders you actually pick up.. All it cares about is Picking up EVERY RIDER. Regardless of how much it may cost you in time and money. Why say your an independent contractor but when you exercise that right they deactivate you? Find another ride share company or a part time job that actually adheres to labor laws. Don’t grovel over a company that doesn’t give a sh– about you.

      1. hi Patrick I had almost the same problem with Ubereats driver app.My Uber app was doing the same thing. It will show as 1 minute but location was atleast 15-20 minute away. So I cancelled 3 rides. I also had to cancel ride because restaurant was shut and one made me wait way too long for food. Nonetheless they disactivated my account. I been to grenlight office to try and speak with senior manage But senior managers are based in different office. Lady who was dealing with me was helpful and tried to speak with her manager and after few minutes she got back to me and told me that they have activated my account again. At one moment I was so happy and straight after few minutes later Uber senior management team dis activated my account again. When I went back to speak with them, lady who was helping me said they activated it by mistake and now I need to wait for their phone call. I am really in limbo.

    Every response I’ve ever had from uber is as generic as this one. This is one of 3. All identical but with different names at the bottom.

    1. The short answer is PROBABLY NOT. You probably could, if you have a new phone number, email and social security number (if in the US). That being said, if you are able to get around all 3 unique identifiers, your account will probably would be disabled as soon as it is found out by Uber customer service.

  5. My account was deactivated because my background check has been held up. I began driving for Uber in Oct. 2015. My driver’s licence was renewed on July 25, 2015. Now I am deactivated until I prove I have had my DL for at least a year! I have uploaded the requested documents 5 times now. They keep asking for a copy of my old driver’s license. Who keeps their old DL? I have never had a problem with Uber until now. Ratings are good and everything was fine. It has been 19 days today.

    1. When your friend send an email to Uber support, ask your friend to ask for an “Uber manager”. An Uber customer support manager can then handle his complaint. If he is a repeat offender, it is unlikely he will get re-instated. Having someone sit in the car, when you go pick a passenger is a definite “NO NO”.

    My friend’s partner account got disabled because he has a rider account as well and they said because he has same email address on his rider and partner sccount they disabled his partner account. When he emailed them asking what should he do to reactivate his account the reply was this.

    When he checked his email addresses on both of his accounts they were 2 different emails. So he replied to them saying it is different and he doesn’t understand what they are asking and again to help him to reactivate his account he got another response saying this.

    1. Has your friend tried reaching out to the local Uber office? That might be his/her best bet. Unfortunately you get a lot of canned responses from the general box. It is the luck of the draw which customer representative you get.

    1. I would suggest you go in to your local Uber office. Sometimes the email responses from Uber are unhelpful, and it is the luck of the draw who responds to your emails.

        1. If you have a false accusation against you, you might want to present your evidence to Uber customer representatives in your city. I would advise you go to your local Uber office with your evidence in hand. Text messages, video/audio proof will help your particular case.

    i am from India Mumbai my account is rejected from uber so i am jobless from last 10 days. When i go to local uber office they said you do fraud booking but i never did any fraud booking. But they are not listen anything and ask me to contact the manager but manager was not there. i go next day to meet manager but not find him.

    1. Do you have any documented proof that you didn’t do a fraudulent booking? Perhaps, if you can get that or at least a legal affidavit showing attesting to that, they will probably re-consider your case. Also, ask to speak to a manager the next time you get there with your documented proof.

    I am uber driver from long time. I do only part time as my convenient time. I am dedicated driver from the beginning but sometime things and situation is not favorable so I got the low score also couldn’t improve because I only drive for Friday and Saturday.
    Couple of months ago my account has deactivated and I got online training as uber rules and the account again, activated with same rating score . I couldn’t able to give more time to uber as a driver, it may the cause my rating remain same 4.45. then uber sent me a message of deactivated. The message is as below;

We encourage all users to rate the experience at the end of a trip, and we regularly review both ratings to maintain a safe and respectful environment in cities all over the globe.

As a result, we regret to inform you we will be ending our partnership with you effective immediately. It was not a swift decision as we value each and every driver who chooses to use Uber, however, in an effort to ensure the platform remains an attractive option for riders and drivers, our team had to make this difficult decision.

    1. I would suggest you go in to the Uber office for a follow up. Emails are unlikely to change much, if you have already been down that route.

    I have been having issues with uber due to my profile picture over the past week since I’ve started working for them. Today I received an email saying that after going through for safety check, they have concluded that my profile picture does not match my license picture! My license picture is a few years old, since then I have lost weight, also I have a beard now instead of my clean shaven license photo. needless to say they deactivated my account saying that I went against uber policy!!!     This is Sree.Uber deactivated my account.when I review about my trips before deactiation,There is one rider is in rush to go for shopping.Some one crossing the road very slowely.Looks like she stand in the moddle of the road.
    I asked my rider very causally” In your country people crossing the roades like this”.

  29. I was deactivated on sat mar 4 . Uber said it was for numerous dangerous driving complaints. I find this hard to believe as I’m a safe driver and my last citation was in 1998 for going 58km in a 50 zone.when uber first emailed me they addressed me as Shawn . I replied that I’m David . Uber wouldn’t give me details on who complained about me and when I went to the Toronto office on Saturday there were no notes in my file, the gent only said that my account is deactivated. I plan on going to the office again on Monday and hope to speak to a manager. Do I have any recourse? I’ve been driving nearly 2 years and completed almost 12000 trips.   37. I been driving uber for close to 1 year now, all thoughout that time been having a 4.9 star rating, and so so many 5 star comments. I was told I have over 1,600 trips. I got deactivated 3 weeks ago, due to them saying a rider complained that I used sexual comments, they said there were 4 of kind of the same complaints. I did get warned when they said a rider complained about the same situation. I am happily married with 2 daughters in college. I emailed Uber several times, addressing my point, that I do try to make Conversation, asking if she’s married, any kids, believe me NEVER ever used sexual comments. After emailing them over and over again, I got a call from a Uber rep in the security department and she went over the comments, and in the cases there was a miscommunication, as the rider took it as I was making an attempt to ask them out. She even agreed with me, but said Uber guidelines we can not re-activate a account over something like this. I asked her to please talk with her superior to please review this, and our Conversation, since it was recorded. She did say she will do that, but the chance of him re-activating is probly a no. Is there any way I can appeal this? Or anything g else I can possibly do?

  38. I just activated my Uber account on 04/18/17. I logged into the Uber Dashboard yesterday & updated my address, cell phone # (because it was entered incorrectly), added my bank account # & debit card, uploaded a picture. 30 minutes later I get a email that states:

    Hi Porsha, Due to the ongoing improper use of the Uber application, [Uber USA LLC/Rasier LLC] is terminating its partnership with you, effective immediately. If you rent a phone from Uber, please return it to our office within the next week by filling out the form t.uber.com/returnlabel for a prepaid shipment label. If a deposit was taken for the phone, Uber will refund this deposit once the phone is sent back and processed.

    I messaged support, & three agents told me:

    Hi Porsha,

    Thank you for your message. We have reviewed your situation and unfortunately we cannot activate your account again.

    If the situation changes we will contact you. Should you have more questions other than this, feel free to refer to this help page.
