Drive With Uber In Pakistan

Uber in Pakistan

Uber launched in Lahore, Pakistan in March 2016 with additional features to increase passenger safety. The ride sharing giant is facing stiff competition from another ride sharing startup: Careem. Both companies are disrupting the Lahore taxi market by providing transport alternatives in Pakistan where the use of rickshaws are high.

In August 2016, Uber also sprouted operations in Karachi town of Pakistan, making it the 2nd city in Pakistan to experience the benefits of the ride hailing company.

Becoming an Uber driver in Pakistan requires stricter documentation due to the high level of harassment in the country. This post will provide prospective drivers with all the information needed to partner with Uber in Pakistan.

Registration Process

To start out as an driver with Uber in Pakistan, you only have to follow the steps listed below:

STEP 1 – Ready Your Documents

  • A photo of you (a clear headshot)
  • A valid driver’s license
  • Vehicle registration documents
  • Vehicle insurance document
  • CNIC (Computerized National Identity Card) This will be verified by Uber
  • Ensure the vehicle registration number is listed
  • All the documents above must clearly show a valid expiration date
  • Provide character certificate, signed by police station and other authorities
  • Social referral certificates (Written by a non-relative, preferably a previous boss)

STEP 2 – Signup Online

  • Once you have all of these documents, the next step is to sign up through the Uber website – using our link: uberkit.net/signup. (You get a signup bonus if you use our link, which has our signup referral code already pre-populated). Note – the links redirect to the correct Uber URL.

After the online registration, Uber will ask for verification documents like the driving license, CNIC or any other documents required for a background check to be carried out on intending drivers.

STEP 3 – Wait for Results of Tests

  • When possible, Criminal Background Checks are also conducted.
  • CNIC and Character certificates are investigated to ensure that they are all genuine.

STEP 4 – Get an Uber Approved Car

Note-if you are a driver looking to work for an existing Uber partner, ignore this section and skip to STEP-5

As for the vehicle to use, you need to make sure it fits the car requirements specifically for Uber drivers in your specific city. Note – Uber has various services but only offer UberGO currently in Pakistan. Some of these requirements include the fact that the car year is 2006 or newer-Uber car year requirements vary by city. It is currently year 2006 or newer in many cities. The car should also have no major cosmetic damage. Salvaged or rebuilt vehicles cannot be used, and full-size vans or marked vehicles such as taxis are a no-no as well. Also, note, whatever vehicle you get it will have to go through an Uber approved Vehicle inspection.

STEP 5 –Interview

Once you have completed the preceding steps, you will be invited to the Uber office for an interview. Please ensure you have sufficient street and route knowledge of your area/city. You should be dressed professionally for this interview.

As part of the on-boarding process, you will undergo an anti-sexual harassment after which your vehicle’s documents will be checked, and you will officially become an Uber driver and/or Uber partner.

You will also receive an Uber-issued cell phone which will have the Uber application installed on it to allow you receive ride requests. However, if you wish to use your own smart phone, it is perfectly fine to return the cell phone.

UberGo

UberGO is the only taxi service Uber is currently offering in Pakistan. Eligible vehicles for this service include but are not limited to Suzuki Swifts, Toyota Viz, Toyota Corollas or Honda Civics.

Nice to Know

If you want to become an Uber partner in Pakistan, it is necessary to be aware of the fact that you will be expending certain sums of money to pay for fuel.

In addition to the afore-mentioned, you have other costs like car maintenance, insurance costs, car depreciation, and Uber royalties. If you are looking to do proper due diligence before acquiring a car and want to assess the profitability of Uber as a business whether as a one man business (a sole Uber driver), or as an Entrepreneur with multiple Uber cars in his/her fleet, then either of our Uber Kits at the top right of the linked page:

That sums up everything you need to know about Uber in Pakistan. Now you can confidently begin the process of driving with Uber.

Uber, Hyundai And Driverless Cars

hyundai

The race to create a driverless car future is prompting unlikely partnerships all around the globe. In April 2016, automakers and ride-sharing giants namely: Volvo, Ford, Uber, Lyft and Google came together to form an alliance called Self-Driving Coalition for Safer Streets (SDCSS).  This alliance was formed “ to work with lawmakers, regulators, and the public to realize the safety and societal benefits of self-driving vehicles,” the group said in a statement .

We also saw Google teaming up with Fiat Chrysler Automobiles to see how they can make the new Pacifica minivan into a self-driving test subject.

Uber – Hyundai

Joining the race, ride hailing company Uber has shown intent to partner with South Korean Hyundai in the development of self driving cars for the nearest future.  Uber officials were recently spotted paying a visit to Hyundai’s Namyang research and development facility in Hwaseong sometime in June 2016.

The company has been quite vocal about its desire to create a driverless taxi service by 2020. Uber has been searching for partners in creating self-driving technologies that could allow autonomous car driving. It is clear that a partnership with Hyundai will bring this vision to the fore. It was also reported that Uber intends to purchase a large number of Hyundai vehicles as well.

In 2015, Uber opened a joint research facility with Carnegie Mellon University, which is geared towards the development of tech equipment that target driverless cars and artificial intelligence.

Hyundai has also been making strides in the autonomous technology front. The Korean auto giant has been involved in developing vehicles that are equipped with semi autonomous parts. The EQ900 released in 2016 and the G80 are now part of Hyundai’s new Genesis luxury sub-brand and both incorporate autonomous car technologies such as automatic emergency braking, highway driving assist (HAD) system and adaptive cruise control.

My Thoughts

Although Hyundai has not gained popular recognition in its efforts to develop autonomous technology for self driving vehicles, the unsung hero received approval from the Korean Government in March 2016 to test its self-driving Hyundai Genesis sedans on public roads. The car maker has also strategically upped the driver assist level of its vehicles – gradually mastering the driverless path.

Despite hurried efforts by invested parties for driverless cars to see the light of day, we have to also appreciate the efforts put in place by these parties to guarantee the safety of these vehicles. I am excited to see where the future of driverless cars takes us.

All About Indonesia’s Go-Jek

What is Go-Jek really?

Go-Jek is one of the fastest-growing tech startups in Indonesia. The on demand transport company also provides shopping and courier services in Indonesia. Go-Jek uses informal motorcycle taxis — ojeks in Indonesian — by outfitting the drivers with green uniforms and helmets. The company also organizes these motorcyclists through a mobile app which gives users a platform through which they book drivers. The company was set up to simplify payment for Ojeks by setting a set rate per kilometer. It works a little bit like Uber. Go-Jek was founded in 2010 by Nadiem Makarim who didn’t fully join the company until 2014 since the company couldn’t afford to pay him at the time.

Go-Jek’s Services

In 2016, Go-Jek claimed to have enrolled over 200,000 motorbike drivers  in Indonesia – the world’s fourth largest country with a population of more than 250 million people. The company is best known for providing on demand motorbike taxis, a type of transportation popular in parts of Southeast Asia where heavy urban traffic makes two wheels faster than four. Go-JekDemand is particularly high in Jakarta, which is home to some 30 million people and is one of the world’s most congested cities. In addition to regular rides, Go-Jek offers on-demand services like food (GO FOOD), shopping (GO MART), Instant messenger service (GO SEND), transport service (GO CAR), massage professional health care service (GO MASSAGE), to name a few. The company stated that it processed 20 million bookings (about around 667,000 per day) in June 2016. TechCrunch reports that the company fulfilled 256,000 rides per day in April 2016.

Latest Round of funding

Go-Jek, currently rivaling Uber and Grab in Indonesia, has closed $550 million in new funding a source close to the company told TechCrunch. Investors in its latest round of financing included Farallon Capital, Capital Group Private Markets and existing shareholders the company said in a statement. The deal values Go-Jek at $1.3 billion (post-money). The Wall Street Journal reported that Go-Jek was in talks to raise $400 million with KKR and Warburg Pincus being among the potential new backers. The startup’s existing investors include Sequoia Capital, DST Global and Singapore-based NSI Ventures.

Competitiveness

Uber’s UberMoto is facing major competition from Go-Jek who is now the number one online service booking app in Indonesia. Go-JekThe company plans to spend its recent investments on growing its services. With 13 million downloads as of March 2016 and 10 lines of services spread out in 10 cities in Indonesia, Go-Jek will continue to compete with its fierce rivals (UberMoto and GrabBike) in Indonesia.

It doesn’t appear that this round of financing will fund an expansion outside of Indonesia yet but the new funds raised comes at an interesting time for Southeast Asia’s on-demand services. Uber’s decision to sell its China operations to Didi Chuxing likely means that the U.S. Company — valued at $66 billion — will divert more resources into Southeast Asia and India, potentially increasing competition with Grab in its six markets and Go-Jek in Indonesia. Uber has started launching new services across Southeast Asia and reached operational profitability in two countries.

Given the increased competition facing Go-Jek, this new funds will go a long way in securing the company’s position in Indonesia, allowing it compete favorably with its cash-rich rivals.

How the UberRUSH API benefits developers

UberRUSH is an on-demand delivery network powered by Uber that lets you and your customers track the exact location of your delivery from any electronic device.

Advantages of the API To developers

With the launch of UberRUSH in October, Uber set out to help local businesses improve delivery in Chicago, New York, and San Francisco through some online product and platform partners like Shopify and delivery.com. Since inception, thousands of local businesses have integrated this service into their websites to help customers save time with no hassle. UberRUSHWith a variety of endpoints and features, the RUSH API acts as a simple solution for companies looking to build or streamline last-mile logistics.

Calvin lee, product Manager for UberRUSH thinks developers would be excited about the API because it gives them the liberty of not worrying about the complexities involved in logistics; giving them opportunity to focus on building the on demand section of the business. Now anyone can build an on-demand delivery system right into an existing business.

Here’s how companies are already taking advantage of the API:

  • Enabling expansion: Before UberRUSH, the founders of Pythagoras (an on-demand artisan pizza service) had to pre-plan delivery schedules and stick to a limited delivery zone. Now with the integration of UberRUSH API with their app, the team is able to automatically tap into Uber’s delivery network and reach new neighbourhoods with their delicious pizzas.
  • More selection: Dryv, an on-demand dry cleaning business in Chicago, uses the API to create more options for their customers. Whether a customer is in the midst of a stain emergency or needs clothes delivered to a special location, UberRUSH allows Dryv offer additional services without having to restructure their entire operation.
  • Improving reliability: New restaurants Ando and Mealmade are on-demand food delivery services that receive hundreds of orders every day and experience unpredictable spikes in orders. By integrating the UberRUSH API, the two restaurants access Uber’s entire delivery network in an instant so they can fulfill orders even during the busiest hours.
  • Turning on-demand ideas into businesses: UberRUSH was designed to enable any type of on-demand business – whether it requires moving people or things. For entrepreneurs like Up Sonder, UberRUSH was the missing ingredient to help transform their concept into a reality. They now offer drones on-demand so that customers can capture epic footage for any occasion.

How It Works

An UberRUSH delivery typically involves interaction between three parties: the customer, the business, and Uber (courier)

To get started with the UberRUSH API please click this link.

  • How To Hail: Request a messenger at your location. The delivery person will arrive to collect your delivery instructions either on bike or on foot, carry your package away to its destination. Both the sender and the recipient can track the location of the package on Uber’s app.
  • The Catch: Uber’s messengers won’t conduct transactions on your behalf. They just pick up packages and deliver.
  • Pricing: RUSH pricing is based on zones. If a package is delivered within the same zone of Manhattan (Upper West, Upper East, Midtown, Downtown, or Lower Manhattan), then your delivery will cost a flat $15. If the package needs to go through another zone, it’s $15 plus $5 for each additional zone the biker travels through.

When To Use The API

Whether you’re using the API to power an existing business or building a new one around it, the API can be used in a variety of different ways. Here are just some examples of how others have been using the API to power their businesses:

  • Add UberRUSH as an on-demand delivery option to your business
  • Build an on-demand business on top of UberRUSH’s logistics platform
  • Use the service to replace or supplement your existing delivery drivers
  • Build and create your own on-demand marketing campaigns powered by UberRUSH
  • Use UberRUSH to efficiently move your inventory from one location to another

Easy Ways To Promote Your Uber Referral Code

Uber, valued at $68 billion, is one of the fastest-growing companies in the world and is  achieving record signup rates for both drivers and riders. Thanks to the sheer amount of seemingly endless current Uber promotions like the Uber referral code, the company will likely continue to experience even more explosive growth for years to come. One common Uber promotion is the referral program.

What is the Uber referral code?Uber referral code

Uber will award drivers or riders with cash when they refer their friends to drive or ride with Uber.
These cash bonuses are easy avenues to make quite a bit of money.
If you are an Uber driver or rider, simply refer people as new drivers/ riders to Uber. The new driver simply needs to use your Uber referral code at signup, then you will both get cash bonuses once they complete the required number of trips. Since these rewards are double-sided, you will both get paid.

These cash bonuses vary widely, and depends on what city you sign up in and at what time. These bonuses often change, and are calculated with an algorithm that factors in driver and passenger demand. The less drivers available = higher bonus to recruit more. If a city has a lot of drivers that want to drive, the bonus obviously drops because Uber has plenty of demand to fill open spots.

You can give your referral code to anyone.  It doesn’t matter if the person who uses your referral code has known you for a few years, or just met you. Also, your referral code does not expire, so you can continue to share this code for years on end. While these bonuses may not seem like a whole lot right off the bat, they can certainly add up before you know it.

Remember, new Uber riders have the chance to get free ride credits with the passenger referral program as well. The passenger referral program begins with an Uber driver. An Uber driver will create a personalized Uber referral code for a free ride that is equivalent to $20. Once the Uber driver has their personalized referral code, they have the opportunity to share it with anyone they want to.

How to easily promote your Uber referral code

Business cards

You can create business cards that include your referral code and information about Uber to hand out to potential users, who will then get a discount on their first trip when they sign up.

Once you’ve printed your business cards, you can hand them out at events, give them to local businesses like hotels and conference centers, or even give them to passengers who are accompanying the user who booked the ride but don’t have an Uber account themselves. While it takes some extra effort, securing those recruitment bonuses helps you earn extra money without spending more hours driving. You can also earn lucrative bonuses by recruiting other drivers.

Word of mouth

Another popular way to promote your Uber referral code is by speak inghighly of Uber to your friends, family, and co-workers. If they hear about how much success you have acheived through Uber and about the cash bonuses they can get if they start driving for Uber, they are most likely going to sign up. Thus, it’s the perfect win-win situation.

Social Media

The most popular way of promoting your referral code is by putting it on social media, thus it is available for the world to see.

Places you cannot Promote your referral code

However, please note that there are a few places you cannot share your referral code. These include paid ads such as Google Adwords or Facebook and Twitter ads. If Uber finds you sharing the code on these outlets, they can and will terminate your Uber account. So please be careful when sharing and signing up other drivers.

Terms and conditions

  • Only a select amount of cities participate in the Uber passenger referral program
  • Passenger referral codes only work for new accounts
  • The person using the passenger referral code must enter the code prior to booking their first ride
  • The free ride credit is only good for up to $20
  • The $20 ride credit is not redeemable for cash
  • You cannot transfer the ride credit
  • Ride credits are only valid for the first 30 days

Conclusion

Through the various promotions and opportunities that Uber gives to their employees and customers, you can tell that they are just as dedicated to you, as you are to them. If you choose to drive with Uber, you are pretty much guaranteed to make more money than the typical taxi driver, and by customizing your own promo code, you can make even more.

Hacker Reveals loophole in Uber App and Gets Rewarded With Free Rides For Life

Evidently it pays to be good. Anand Prakash, a product security engineer in India discovered a loophole within the Uber app
which allows riders complete rides without making payments.

But how did this loophole in the Uber app work?

Detailing how ride payments could be hacked on the Uber app, Anand who also runs an IT blog said, “When a ride is completed a user can either pay cash or charge it to their credit/debit card…but by specifying an invalid payment method for example: abc, xyz etc, I could ride Uber for free.”

According to Telegraph, Anand stated that, “Attackers could have misused this by taking unlimited free rides from their Uber account.”

Before you rush to try this out, Uber has since fixed this gap and yes, you have to keep paying for rides.

To show if and how it works, Anand requested permission from Uber to complete several rides around the U.S and India. He completed these trips and didn’t pay a dime.

Prakash stated he makes a living out of finding security bugs and by being a part of the Uber security program has until now been awarded $13,500 (£11,000) from Uber in bounty rewards

Uber’s Deal With Otto

Uber remains committed to revolutionizing the transport industry by forming partnerships with other relevant stakeholders within the industry as well.  With an eye on America’s $700 billion-a-year trucking industry, Uber entered a partnership with Otto.

What is Otto?

Otto is the self-driving-truck startup founded by Anthony Levandowski and Lior Ron, both former high-level Google employees. Otto at only six months old, with fewer than 100 employees, already had four trucks on the road 24/7. The company is sprinting towards what Ron described to Business Insider as a not-so-distant future of self-driving semis, where existing trucks can install one of Otto’s $30,000 kits to produce autonomous-driving capabilities. “There’s more and more demand for truck drivers to drive more with less time,” Ron says. “We’re living in an on-demand era where we all want to press a button and have something arrive as fast as possible. Well, there’s a truck and a driver behind all of those products.”

Uber Buys Otto

As Uber ramps up its driverless-car operations in Pittsburgh, it will have some help from several ex-Google employees (Anthony Levandowski and Lior Ron) who have already mastered the technology. Uber acquired self-driving trucks startup Otto and formed a $300 million alliance with Volvo Car Group to develop self-driving cars. Levandowski will now take over Uber’s entire self-driving-car operations and Uber plans to open two more R&D offices: one in Palo Alto and another in Otto’s offices in San Francisco. ottoUber’s move reflect its eagerness to advance self-driving technology. “Together, we now have one of the strongest autonomous engineering groups in the world; self-driving trucks and cars that are already on the road thanks to Otto and Uber’s Advanced Technologies Center in Pittsburgh; the practical experience that comes from running ridesharing and delivery services in hundreds of cities; with the data and intelligence that comes from doing 1.2 billion miles on the road every month,” said Uber CEO Travis Kalanick.

The purchase of Otto will increase Uber’s valuation by 1%, if certain technical targets are met, a source reveals to Reuters. Recently, Uber was valued for $68 billion, placing the value of the partnership deal at about $680 million. Current Otto employees would get a fifth of profits Uber earns from the self-driving trucking business, if those targets are met, the source reiterates.

What to Expect

“The key for all of this is about accelerating that future — really bring the best of minds from our team, from the existing Uber team, that will allow us to really get to that future sooner than later,” Ron stated.

“There’s a gradual transition that’s going to take many, many years for that to happen, and in the end of that transition, we’re going to see the economy shift to a slightly different model,” Ron stated.

“There’s no way you can get around the fact that this will be to cut their dependency on human drivers and thus, the amount of humans they would employ,” stated Karl Brauer, senior analyst of Kelley Blue Book. “I think self-driving technology will be similar to cell phone technology of the last ten years, meaning it’s going to show up quickly and change things dramatically in a relatively short amount of time,” Brauer stated.

Would this self driving vehicles reduce human dependency? It sure will. Let us also consider that if this technology passes all tests and investigations, it will help reduce human error and accidents on our roads as well.

More Details About UberTAXI

Uber as a ridesharing platform allows registered drivers on the platform connect with riders in a seamless on-demand fashion. Riders place ride requests via the Uber mobile app and are then connected with nearby Uber drivers. As a company, Uber is valued at $80b and remains an unrivaled player in the ridesharing industry by strategically dethroning traditional methods of transportation such as Taxis. With its already exisiting plethora of services, Uber continues to develop innovative products like the UberTAXI, designed to satisfy various customer needs.

What Is UberTAXI?ubertaxi

UberTaxi lets riders request for licensed taxi cabs (i.e., regular taxi cabs; yellow cabs; and black cabs) via the Uber mobile app. Riders are picked up by regular metered taxis instead of private cars. However, this service is entirely cashless and customers book for rides and pay for same rides directly through Uber’s smartphone app.

UberTaxi drivers drive regular metered cabs. However, they must be registered on Uber’s system.

UberTAXI is available in Boston, Honolulu, New York City, San Francisco and Washington, D.C. This service is now spreading to other cities outside the U.S like London and Berlin.

With UberTAXI, you pay a $1–$2 booking fee, the standard taxi rate, and a 20% gratuity. You pay for your ride with the Uber app, so you won’t have to hand cash or a credit card to your taxi driver.

How The Service Works

  • You can hail a licensed taxicab in the same way that you would request an Uber
  • You pay a $1–$2 booking fee
  • You pay the normal metered taxicab rate
  • You pay a 20% gratuity
  • All payments are handled by the Uber app

Differences Between UberX, UberBLACK and UberTAXI

In most cities, an UberX, XL, or Black car is cheaper, more convenient, and an overall better experience than any city cab. ubertaxiBut there are a few situations when UberTAXI is the smarter choice, or the only other choice if you want to use Uber.

  • Rides to and from the airport: Most airports heavily restrict the UberX service but the UberTaxi provides you with licensed Taxis that are allowed almost anywhere.
  • Rides in a city that limits or prohibits UberX: Some cities limit the number of UberX cars on the road or outrightly ban the service, while still allowing UberTaxi which favors .
  • During Surge Pricing: This is a great advantage. During peak hours, Uber users can exempt themselves from the gouging prices by hailing an UberTAXI instead of other Uber services

UberX is the most basic private car service that Uber has to offer, and it’s also Uber’s lowest-cost option. Uber X is very affordable, and is generally much cheaper than a traditional yellow cab.

A regular UberBLACK or a “Black Car” is Uber’s most luxurious service, driven by professional drivers. Typical cars in this service include Lincoln, Cadillac or Mercedes town car that seats up to five passengers.

In contrast, UberTAXI is exactly what it sounds like: real, live, licensed taxi cabs. The problem here is that in most jurisdictions including NYC, taxis are subject to very strict licensing, operating, franchise and fare regulations that are quite different from For-Hire Vehicles. What Is Ridepost?

Ridepost is an online platform where motorists meet to share rides and experiences, thus making it easy for ridesharers to network with one another and find rides. Ridepost is a form of ridesharing that enables unacquainted travelers heading towards the same direction join a ride that is headed in the same direction. According to Ridepost, this will enable efficient travel.
