Drive with Uber in Bogota, Colombia

If you wish to drive with Uber in Bogota – Colombia, you have come to the right blog! This post is aimed at making sure that every intending Uber driver or Uber partner is provided with the right information to aid their decision to drive with Uber.

Drive with Uber in Colombia

Fortunately, this is not a complicated process. It requires completing some necessary steps within a reasonable period of time to make you eligible to drive with Uber in Bogota.

Before we dive right in, let’s talk about Uber’s ultimate requirement –

The ‘Age-Factor’

Before you can drive with Uber in Bogota – Colombia, you must know that Uber takes its age policy pretty seriously. This age policy varies for different cities. To join Uber as a driver in Bogota, you have to be at least 21 years old. If you meet this requirement, please proceed to fulfil the steps listed below:

STEP 1 – Ready Your Documents

  • A valid driver’s license
  • Vehicle registration documents
  • Vehicle insurance document (if you already have a car you intend to use)
  • Commercial vehicle insurance for UberBlack drivers
  • You (driver) must be the holder of the above, or at least a listed driver
  • Ensure the vehicle registration number is listed
  • Documents must clearly show a valid expiration date

Note-It is essential to upload very clear pictures (jpg format typically has the least issues) in which all of the numbers and information on the pictures are very visible.  The name on the documents must match your official birth name and the name you provide on the Uber signup page.

STEP 2 – Onboarding Process

Once you have the above numerated documents ready, the next step is to sign up through the Uber website – using our link: www.uberkit.net/signup. (You get a signup bonus if you use our link, which has our signup referral code already pre-populated).

After signing up and uploading the required information, anyone who wishes to drive with Uber in Bogota will need to go through an onboarding process. Uber uses this process as a means to ensure that all intending drivers are qualified and up to the standards that Uber seeks to maintain.

Subsequently, you will be tested on all of the general knowledge that Uber drivers are expected to have. You can prepare for this by asking already-employed Uber drivers for advice on what you should know for these tests. It is expected that as an aspiring Uber driver in Bogota, you should have great knowledge of the routes in Bogota without relying a great deal on maps. This knowledge is a must have for every intending Uber driver.

After these tests, there will be a few more interviews and some onboarding sessions.

STEP 3 – Wait for Uber Background Checks

Uber will typically take between 2 to 4 weeks to perform their background checks. Specifically they will take the documents provided in Step 1 and do the following.

  • A comprehensive criminal background check
  • Check to see if you have a clean driving record (to be sure that your license has never been revoked for any reason).

STEP 4 – Get an Uber Approved Vehicle

It is important to note that Uber has various services which require different types of vehicles. You should decide on which of the services you are interested in before buying a car (if you do not have one). See the section below on “Selecting an Uber Service” for more information. Your car will be rejected if it has major cosmetic damage or it is salvaged (was involved in a major accident and had to be fixed with parts from other vehicles or rebuilt). There might be some extra requirements (besides the general) depending on the type of Uber service you choose.

Selecting an Uber Service

Selecting an Uber service is largely dependent on figuring out which one of the available services you can afford.

UberX is the mid-tier priced Uber service, and it also gets the most patronage from Uber passengers across the globe for this reason. This is the category I would recommend starting out with. UberBLACK is a little more expensive, as you need to have a polished high priced sedan with a black exterior. This earns a little more money than UberX, and is a good option for people that want to earn a little more per client.

UberPOOLUberVAN, and UberANGEL are other Uber services available in Bogota. The UberPOOL service allows Uber riders going in the same destination share a ride with one another. In that way, riders can split the fare – thereby paying less for quality service. UberVAN on the other hand is not only dominated by pricey and classy vehicles, but also has its focus on vehicles that are more spacious than the other Uber services. With this service, you can travel in a fancy ride and still have 5 to 6 friends come along.

The uncommon service, UberANGEL is made available to assist Bogota citizens get home or to any other destination in their vehicles when they feel incapacitated to drive. UberANGEL would come in handy situations where a person is too drunk drive after a friend’s party but needs to get home in your car.  You can hail an UberANGEL and Uber’s (sober) driver will take you home in your own car.  This service costs 10,000 Colombian pesos (about $4.50 U.S.), with no additional fees per minute or distance.

What to Do if Your Vehicle Does Not Fit Uber Requirements

If your personal vehicle does not fit the requirements that are necessary for an Uber vehicle, it’s not a problem. You do not necessarily have to buy a fancy new car – a used car that meets the requirements of your selected service should do. However, many people tend to invest in a new car before driving professionally with Uber in Bogota. This isn’t a bad idea if you have the funds. Please see the “Nice to Know” section below for due diligence you should probably carry out if you intend to buy a car specifically for Uber. You also have the option of renting an Uber Car through recommended Uber Rental Partners. You can find out more once you begin the online registration process here: SIGNUP ONLINE.

STEP 5 – Uber Cell Phone

Once you have completed the preceding steps, you will have an option to receive an Uber-issued cell phone which will have the Uber driver application installed on it to give you access to Uber riders. However, if you wish to use your own smart phone, that is perfectly fine. You can read more on how to download the Uber driver app here
