Drive with Uber In Paris, France

Fortunately, signing up to drive with Uber in Paris, France is not a complicated process. The fact that this information is not readily available might suggest otherwise. However, it takes just a few steps and a reasonable period of time to become an Uber driver in Paris. This post will guide you through these steps and help you reach your goal of becoming an Uber driver in Paris, France in no time.

Drive with Uber in Paris

Don’t Forget the ‘Age-Factor’

Before we go on to give detailed steps to take before you can drive with Uber in Paris, you must know Uber takes it minimum age policy seriously and it varies for different cities. To join Uber as a driver in France, you need to be at least 21 years old. If you meet this requirement, you can proceed to follow the steps listed below:

STEP 1 – Ready Your Documents

  • A photo of you (a clear headshot)
  • A valid Permis de conduire (driver’s license)
  • Vehicle registration documents
  • Commercial Vehicle insurance document (if you already have a car you intend to use)
  • You (driver) must be the holder, or at least a listed driver
  • Ensure the vehicle registration number is listed
  • Must clearly show a valid expiration date

Note-It is essential to upload very clear pictures (jpg format typically has the least issues) in which all of the numbers and information on the pictures are clearly visible. It is mandatory that the name on the documents match your official birth name and the name you provide on the Uber signup page.

STEP 2 – Signup Online

Once you have all of these documents, the next step is to sign up through the Uber website – using our link: www.uberkit.net/signup. (You get a signup bonus if you use our link, which has our signup referral code already pre-populated). Note – the links redirect to the correct Uber URL.

STEP 3 – Onboarding Process

After signing up and uploading the required information, everyone who wishes to drive with Uber in France will need to go through an onboarding process. Uber uses this process as a means to ensure that the drivers are qualified and up to the standards that Uber seeks to maintain for clients.

Uber Test/Interview

During the onboarding process, you will also be tested the general knowledge that Uber drivers are expected to have.  You can prepare for by asking already-employed Uber drivers for advice on what you should know for these tests. Your knowledge of whatever part of France you wish to drive in will also be tested. It is expected that as an intending Uber driver, you do not rely heavily on maps but rather have great knowledge of routes in Paris.

After these tests, there will be a few more interviews and some onboarding sessions.

STEP 4 – Wait for Uber Background Checks

Uber will typically take between 2 to 4 weeks to perform their background checks. Specifically they will take the documents provided in Step 1, and do the following.

  • A Comprehensive Criminal Background Check
  • Check to see if you have a clean driving record (to be sure that your license has never been revoked for any reason).

STEP 5 – Get an Uber Approved Vehicle

It is important to note that Uber has various services which require different types of vehicles. It is important to know which service you are interested in before buying a car (if you do not have one). See the section below on “Selecting an Uber Service” for more information.  Some Uber services mandate extra vehicle requirements that go beyond the ordinary. Your car will be rejected if it has major cosmetic damage or it is salvaged (was involved in a major accident and had to be fixed with parts from other vehicles or rebuilt).

Selecting an Uber Service

Another thing to keep in mind when you are selecting a car is which category of Uber you wish to work under.

UberX is the mid-tier cost Uber service, and it also gets the most patronage from Uber passengers across the globe for this reason. This is the category I would recommend starting out with. UberBLACK is a little more expensive, as you need to have a premium vehicle with a black exterior and black leather interior. This earns a little more money than UberX, and is a good option for people that want to earn a little more per client.

UberPOOL, UberVAN, UberGREEN and UberBERLINE (also called the original Uber) are other services available in Paris. The UberPOOL service allows Uber riders going in the same destination share a ride with one another. In that way riders can split the fare, paying lesser for such quality service. UberVAN on another hand is not only dominated by pricey and classy vehicles, but also has its focus on vehicles that are more spacious than the other Uber services. With this service, you can travel in a fancy ride and still have 5 to 6 friends come along.

The Eco friendly service, UberGREEN is also available.  This service allows Uber users to  request an eco-friendly ride (such as a 100% electric BMWi3 at UberX prices.

With the UberBerline ,  you enjoy the services of a professional driver in an elegant car. This service is similar to the UberBLACK service as vehicles under this service are high end vehicles with black exteriors and black leather interiors. Passengers should expect to be picked up in cars like the BMW 7 Series or Audi A8 vehicles (to name a few). If you have a professional appointment, a romantic evening or just want to arrive with elegance, this option is for you. Drivers in this category earn more per ride than other Uber services in Paris.

What to Do if Your Vehicle Does Not Fit Uber Requirements

If your personal vehicle does not fit the requirements necessary for your selected Uber service,  there is no need to worry. You do not necessarily have to buy a fancy new car – a used car that meets the requirement should do. However, many people tend to invest in a new car before driving professionally with Uber in France. This isn’t a bad idea if you have the funds. Please see the “Nice to Know” section below for relevant due diligence you should carry out if you intend to buy a car specifically for Uber. You also have the option of renting an Uber car through recommended Uber Rental Partners. You can find out more once you start the online registration process here: SIGNUP ONLINE.

STEP 6 – Uber Cell Phone

Once you have completed the preceding steps, you will have an option to receive an Uber-issued cell phone which will have the Uber application. This app is installed on the Uber-issued phone and grants you access to Uber passengers. However, if you wish to use your own smartphone, that is perfectly fine. You will have to download the Uber driver app on your phone to enable you receive ride requests from passengers.

Nice to Know

If you want to drive with Uber in France, you have to bear in mind that you will be utilizing a certain amount of money to pay for fuel and other maintenance related expenses.

In addition to the afore-mentioned,  you have other costs like car maintenance, insurance costs, car depreciation, and Uber royalties. If you want to assess the profitability of Uber – whether as a one man business (a sole Uber driver); or as an Entrepreneur with multiple Uber cars in his/her fleet, then you need to download either of our Uber Kits at the top right corner of the pages below:

That’s all there is to becoming an Uber driver in France. Please feel free to share your signup experience with us in comment section
