7 Tips for the First-Time Car Buyer

As a first-time Car Buyer, the process can be nerve-wracking. To drive for Uber, you will need a vehicle and there is no harm in doing research before you get one.  In this post, our guest writer Lauren Bricks will be sharing useful tips to apply before you buy your desired car.

When you’re about to buy a car for the first time in your life, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by the pressure of doing it right. After all, you are a first-time car buyer, and you would want to spend that hard-earned money on something that is worth it.

To help you make an informed decision, here are seven first time car buyer tips that you might find useful.

1. Do your research

It’s good if you already have a car in mind. However, you might want to do more research first. For all you know, there are dealerships near you that are selling the same make of car, but in a much better condition, and with a lower price tag.

If you’re still car-hunting, take the time to scour all the new or used car dealers in your area. You can also go online and read reviews of vehicles, as well as ratings of dealerships so you’ll know their reputation or if the customer service is any good, among other things.

2. Do not buy on your first visit

Once you’ve pinpointed a car dealer, pay them a visit and check out what’s available. But whatever you do, don’t immediately snap one up on your first visit. Considering how dealerships inflate their prices, you need to play a little hard-to-get. Once you’ve established that you’re a bit of a tough customer, it will be very likely that the dealership will offer you a better deal.

3. It’s all in the timing

If you visit a dealership towards the end of the month, the chances of getting a great deal are better, simply because dealers have to meet their monthly quotas. As far as they’re concerned, a sale at a lower price is better than no sale at all. First-Time Car Buyer

4. Consider a used car

A brand-new car is good, but for a first-time car buyer, a used car makes for a great first car. Used cars are less expensive, are already depreciated, and don’t require high insurance coverage.

5. Check what’s under the hood

Sometimes, the excitement of buying your first car gets the better of you when you see one that you fall in love with immediately. However, it’s never good to buy a car just because you like the way it looks.

If you know anything about cars, then you should check under the hood. If you don’t, maybe you can bring along a friend or a family member who does. You should also check the interior of the car and see the condition of the upholstery, car stereo installation, among other things.

6. Don’t be pressured to buy

Sellers and dealers know a first-time buyer when they see one, and they will do and say whatever they can to get you to buy a car at a price that puts you at a disadvantage.  If you think you’re likely to be swayed by all that sales talk, bring a level-headed friend or relative to help you deflect pushy dealers and sellers.

7. Take the car for a test drive

A test drive is a must when you’re buying a car, whether used or brand new. When test-driving, drive the car like you’ve already paid for it. Drive at different speeds, test the brakes, check how well it hugs the turns, run the AC at full blast, or do just about anything you want to do with it.

Hopefully, the tips above can help you out as a first-time car buyer.
